She led her life with love and grace.
Barbara Bailey Binns was born to Dorothy and Arthur Binns in Philadelphia, PA on February 17, 1935. Along with her band of cousins, Barbara literally and figuratively danced and swam through her youth in Chestnut Hill. PA. She met her first husband, William Steinbach at Gettysburg College. They had 5 children, William, Richard, Andrew, Thomas, and Brooke. Barbara could be seen dancing the jitterbug in her living room, volunteering at the elementary school, and organizing the thrift store sale at the local community center. She taught her children how to swim, ski, bake chocolate chip cookies, and even how to throw a football. She shared her love of reading, her belief in education, her commitment to unending kindness, and the value she placed on people. After William died, Barbara married Robert Sellers, embracing his 3 sons, Mark, Scott, and Craig. Barbara and Bob spent an idyllic adulthood attending to and celebrating with their 8 adult children, flying in Bob’s plane, playing tennis, traveling internationally, and enjoying life at Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA. Barbara volunteered at the women’s shelter and the local prison in Buck’s County. She also sat on the board of Meals on Wheels and the board of Pennswood Village. She was a member of Pennswood’s technology committee and organized the yearly book sale fundraiser. Barbara put others first, winning accolades and awards for her service.
Barbara died at Pennswood Village on Oct 4, 2026 surrounded by three generations of love. She prioritized people and relationships, making her profoundly grieved by those in her life. Barbara is survived by her 8 children, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She led her life with love and grace. She will be missed.
The family is holding a private ceremony to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Vita Education Services, the non-profit where Barbara volunteered to bring education to the incarcerated.
