Carol S. Mills

d. May 18, 2025

Carol Smith Mills, a longtime resident of Doylestown, PA, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Doylestown Hospital. She was 83 years old.

Carol was born on January 2, 1942, in Silver Spring, Maryland, and attended Hood College prior to obtaining her Master’s in Education from Lehigh University. Carol spent her entire career at Doyle Elementary School in Doylestown, teaching kindergarten, sixth grade, and finally third grade over the course of her 25-year tenure. She loved children, and found great fulfilment in helping them learn.

Carol was a devout pet lover, and in the 1980’s began taking her dog Mindy to the Neshaminy Manor nursing home as part of a therapy dog program, ultimately becoming a member of Therapy Dogs International. Over the next three decades, Carol expanded her pet therapy to elementary schools such as Linden Elementary, where she and her dogs assisted children in overcoming reading challenges as part of the Roxy Reading Program, as well as provided support at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Shiners Hospital, Pine Run, and Doylestown Hospital, where she became a member of the Animal Assisted Activity Program.

When Carol was not taking part in her pet therapy, she enjoyed reading, crocheting and traveling. She especially enjoyed visiting the countryside of France, taking numerous trips via barge on the Canal du Midi with her husband, family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Otto, her son Jeff, daughter-in-law Alison and two grandchildren, Ben and Kate.

Services and interment were private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the donor's favorite children’s or animal charity.
