Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 27, 1940, Carole was one of three children of Dorothy (Winterhalter) Moyer and Homer E. Moyer. She married Richard Schmalz in 1961, and together they raised three children on their family farm, where Carole devoted herself to both her home and the work that sustained their family. She traveled around the country with Richard for farming endeavors and leisure, and the couple earned numerous major awards in farming and agriculture across Pennsylvania. Carole especially enjoyed family trips to Maine, where its peaceful, natural beauty always made her feel at home. In keeping with her wishes, her ashes and those of her husband will be returned to nature along the rocky coastline of Maine, near the town of Camden and the scenic Mt. Battie where she so often found rest and comfort.

Carole was a hardworking and passionate homemaker who also enjoyed an active lifestyle off the farm, and served for many years as a dedicated fitness instructor at the YMCA in Doylestown.

Carole was known for her sense of humor and delight in nurturing her abundant and beautiful garden. She found joy in baking and cooking, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Time with her grandchildren was always treasured as she celebrated their accomplishments, guided them through childhood, and embraced life’s simple pleasures during their frequent visits. In addition to her love for family, she was an avid reader who especially enjoyed history, archaeology, music, and ornithology.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Schmalz; her son, Bryan Schmalz; and her sister, Marlene Caldwell (Moyer).

Carole is survived by her sons, Jeff Schmalz of Buckingham and Michael Schmalz of Warrington; her daughter‑in‑law, Mary Jane Schmalz, wife of Michael; and her daughter-in-law Joanne Schmalz of Quakertown, wife of her late son Bryan. She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne Oakley (Moyer), of North Anson, Maine.

She leaves behind six grandchildren and three great‑grandchildren, including two young great‑grandsons and a great‑granddaughter soon to be born.

Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and her many friends.
