Conrad Walter Vogel passed away at his Solebury, PA home on January 5, 2026. He was 83.
Born on December 28, 1942, the only child of the late Konrad Vogel and Elsie Boettcher of Philadelphia, PA.
Conrad graduated from Central High School in North Philadelphia. His high school yearbook read, “No matter what the situation, he always had the appropriate joke,” and “a gift for the brush.” Conrad went on to graduate from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art in 1964 and soon became a commercial artist for the N.W. Ayer & Sons Advertising Agency in Philadelphia. When N.W. Ayer opened an office in New York City, Conrad moved with them as an art director working on the AT&T Reach Out and Touch Someone and the “Feelin’ 7Up! campaigns, among others. He was one of the true “madmen” of his day. He commuted to NYC five hours a day from his beloved home in Solebury, PA, where he lived for 56 years.
Retired from the advertising biz in 1992, he kept very busy - first having a lawncare business, then raising the ‘world’s best fed” chickens and collecting a few antique cars (Fords were his favorites!). Then there was his home on Phillips Mill Road. Anyone who knew ‘Connie’ knew how deeply he loved his property - you could always find him outside planting, mowing, wedding, trimming, or chopping wood. It was his constant joy, a devotion that stayed with him ‘till the day he died.
Able to do just about anything, from building a house to fixing a car engine, cooking was, however, a skill Conrad never quite mastered. As a result, he became a familiar face at many Bucks County eateries, most notably HG’s and the former Square One, where his wit and charm were warmly welcomed. Always ready to share a funny story or help a friend in need, he was the essence of the term “a good neighbor.” As one of them remarked, “He was a true legend around here. We called him ‘the unofficial mayor’ of our road!”
Conrad is survived by his youngest daughter, Marianne Bender and son-in-law Rob Bender of Los Angeles, CA, and his oldest daughter, Lora Cohen-Vogel, son-in-law Daniel Cohen-Vogel, and grandsons, Noah and Benjamin Cohen-Vogel of Chapel Hill, NC.
There will be a celebration of his life at the American Legion, 320 North Union St, Lambertville, NJ 08530 from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026. Interment will be private. Please bring a funny story about Conrad. That’s what he would have wanted.
