Doris R. Long

Doris Roberta Long of Doylestown, PA, formerly of Yardley, PA, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the age of 88 after a long illness. 

For sixty years, she was the loving wife of Donald C. Long. She was also the devoted mother of Donna L. Long and David B. Long and the proud grandmother of Merritt C. Long. She is also survived by her younger sister Lois Landis of Doylestown, PA.

Doris was born in Sellersville, PA in November of 1937 to Elbert Epheraim Landis and Ethel Viola Landis and grew up in central Bucks County. She graduated from Doylestown High School in 1955 and then earned a degree from the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 and became a registered nurse. For many years afterwards, Doris and a loyal group of friends would attend Allentown Hospital Nursing School reunions.

After marrying Donald C. Long in 1960 at Saint Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dublin, PA, Doris and Donald lived in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. After Donald got a job at RCA in Hightstown, NJ, they moved to Yardley borough, eventually buying a house for their growing family in Lower Makefield Township.

For several years Doris worked full time as a nurse, but after her children were born; she stopped working to raise her family. Later she returned to nursing part time with the Pennsbury School District.

Doris was also very active with community activities, particularly Girl Scouts where she held several volunteer positions including ‘Cookie Mother’.  Doris loved music, doing crafts and jigsaw puzzles, watching the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team, attending Penn State University football games, and spending time with her family, particularly her grandson, Merritt. 

All services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris’s name can be made to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.
