Florence J. Handy of Doylestown Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 14th at the age of 93. She was the wife for 63 years of the late Earl D. Handy.
Florence was born in Abington Pennsylvania and the daughter of the late Edward J. and Florence C. (Merwitz) Schultz.
Florence was a lively soul who enjoyed life and always laughed out loud. She loved to save newspaper clippings and cartoons to share with others. She stayed on top of all current events and how other people lived. TV shows could always be heard from the living room such as Dr. Phil, Cops, Wheel of Fortune and the occasional Eagles game when they were on a winning streak. Lately, she took to watching golf and knew all the players. Florence was able to craft the most beautiful things and her creativity is on display all throughout her house. She had an active role at her church where she made the flower arrangements every week. Her favorite song “A Mighty Fortress is our God” which was sung as loud as she could in church. Above everything, she cherished the relationships she held with all her friends and family and loved all animals.
Florence is survived by her two sons: Earl and James and his wife Lisa (Weiland). She was a loving grandmother to Lauren Nicholls (Bryan) and Allison Cowen (David), as well as her great grandchildren, Eli, Owen, Onyx and Zoe. She had several nieces and nephews and was adored by all her family and will be missed greatly. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Hettinger and brother, Edward J. Schultz.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 22 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 where the family will greet guests from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Mechanicsville Cemetery.
