Irene Katherine Matyas, a loving mother whose life was defined by family, deep faith, and volunteerism. She passed away at Pine Run Health Care on November 19, 2025, just a week after her 93rd birthday. She had been a devoted resident of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, for over 60 years.
Born on November 12, 1932, Irene dedicated her life to building a strong home and vibrant community. She was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph "Rudy" Matyas, who preceded her in death in 2017. Irene is survived by her four children: Cathy Hall (Bruce), Mark Matyas (Sue), Laura Matyas (Gary), and Lisa Crits (Chas), eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Irene and Rudy were foundational members of St. Anne’s Church in Warrington. They volunteered countless hours, donated generously, and were familiar faces at all church events, and Irene regularly worked Tuesday night Bingo games there.
Irene also gave back to the wider community by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and at the local elementary school library when her kids were students there.
A dedicated cook and lifelong host, Irene’s greatest joy was gathering her family, extended family, and friends of her children around a table full of food. She was an avid golfer, enjoying rounds in Pennsylvania and for many years in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was most recently swinging a club at Top Golf while in her 90’s. She also loved the Wednesday Bridge Club, a close group of friends that met faithfully for many years and played until the wee hours of the morning.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Anne’s Ukrainian Church at 10am on December 15, followed by interment at St. John Nuemann Cemetery and luncheon at Joseph Ambler Inn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels https://www.cbmealsonwheels.org/
