Jean A. Seltzer

June 10, 1928 — October 3, 2025

Jean (Heaney) Seltzer of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, formerly of Southampton, passed on October 3, 2025 peacefully at home. She was ninety-seven years old. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie B. (Schmidt) Heaney. She is preceded in death by her husband William Seltzer, her sister Mildred Smith, and her brothers Charles “Bud” Heaney, Donald Heaney, and George Heaney.

Jean grew up in Philadelphia alongside her six siblings through some of the hardest times of a generation before moving to Trevose, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Bensalem High School in 1946, where she is remembered by classmates as “most mischievous”, “most humorous”, and as an outstanding softball player.

Jean worked at Curtis Publishing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before joining Standard Pressed Steel (SPS) in Glenside, Pennsylvania in the payroll department, where she excelled for many years. This is also where she met and later married her husband, William Seltzer. In 1970 they adopted their daughter, Dawn (Seltzer) Boger and Jean left SPS so she could commit her life to her one true love; her family. Jean worked part time at Davis Elementary School from 1978 until 1990 when Jean retired at the age of 62, to spend more time with her grandson, Paul Boger.

Jean cherished her time with friends and family over the years. From cross-county road trips and vacations in the mountains to camping trips as far as Algonquin Park in Canada, Jean had a strong sense of adventure and never stopped moving. In their neighborhood in Southampton, Pennsylvania, Jean could often be found playing wiffle ball with the neighborhood children well into her late eighties. Even into her mid-nineties Jean continued to enjoy hiking, trips to the mountains, visits to the beach, breakfast outings at Cross Keys Diner, exploring local museums, and water ice excursions with her daughter and grandson.

For over 20 years Jean took immense joy in organizing her annual family picnic, a tradition started by her father, which brought together as many as 70 members of her family each year. She also dedicated herself as a founding and lasting member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where she maintained many long-time friendships. Jean was incredibly grateful for all of the family, friends, and helping hands that visited and called her over the past few months and years.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Dawn Boger, her husband, Brian, grandson, Paul Boger, his wife, Kris, her brothers, Robert Heaney and Larry Heaney, and a large, loving family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 9 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 65 East Street Road, Feasterville, Pennsylvania with a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, 333 County Line Road, Lower Southampton Township, Pennsylvania.
