Jerilyn Goebel Scott

Jerilyn Goebel Scott, affectionately known as Jeri, passed away on July 18, 2026, leaving a legacy marked by dedication, intellectual curiosity, and heartfelt devotion to those she loved. Born April 19, 1945, in White Plains, New York, Jeri’s life was a testament to perseverance, loyalty, and a profound commitment to her family.

Jeri’s remarkable academic journey began at Lasell University, where she earned her Associate of Arts degree. She then continued her education, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College, and ultimately achieved her Master of Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Through her subsequent career as a librarian, she brought her passion for knowledge and the English language to several respected institutions, including Lucent/Bell Labs, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Bridgeport Post. In each of these roles, Jeri distinguished herself through unwavering diligence and a steadfast work ethic, always striving to achieve what she set her mind to.

Beyond her professional life, Jeri found joy and fulfillment in the world around her. A lifelong sailor, she cherished the peace and adventure that came with time spent on the water. Music was another source of delight for Jeri, especially her love of opera, which resonated with her appreciation of culture and the arts. Reading was more than a pastime; it was one of her greatest joys, feeding her insatiable curiosity and strengthening her mastery of the English language.

Jeri will be remembered first and foremost for her devotion to her family. Her loyalty was unwavering, and those closest to her recall that her family was always her greatest priority. She worked hard to support and encourage her loved ones, never missing an opportunity to be involved in their lives and celebrate their successes. Of all her accomplishments, she took the greatest pride in her grandchildren, treasuring every moment she shared with them and supporting them in every way she could.

Jeri’s legacy endures through her loving family: her daughters Heather Zavanelli and Hillary Larsen-Scott; her son-in-law Mark Zavanelli and daughter-in-law Terry Larsen-Scott; her adoring grandchildren Nathan and Duncan Zavanelli, and Amelia Larsen-Scott; and her granddaughter-in-law Tatiana Zavanelli. They will cherish her memory, drawing strength from the lessons she imparted and the love she so freely gave.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Dane, whose memory remained close to her heart throughout her days.

Jeri Scott’s life was one characterized by dedication—to her work, her passions, and, most of all, her family. Those fortunate enough to have known her will forever remember her loyal spirit, her drive, and the joy she brought to all she encountered.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Beulah Cemetery.
