Judith Stultz Ferguson
Doylestown - Judith Stultz Ferguson of Doylestown died on September 6, 2025 at Wesley Enhanced Living after suffering complications from an infection over Labor Day weekend. She was 86 years old. Judy was the wife of the late James Richardson Ferguson, her husband of 58 years.
Born in Altoona, PA and raised on Garber Street in Hollidaysburg, she was the oldest daughter of the late Franklin Paul Stultz and Elizabeth Gifford Stultz. Judy graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1956 and went on to Pennsylvania State University, Class of 1960. Upon graduation she taught English and Social Studies at Bensalem High School. Judy was also later a reading teacher in the Council Rock School District and a retail banker with CoreStates in Doylestown.
On August 25, 1962 she married James Richardson Ferguson of Philadelphia, PA. Jim and Judy raised two sons in the Newtown area before moving to Short Road in Doylestown in 1985. A lifelong community volunteer, she was an active member of Forest Grove Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed her volunteer activity with Doylestown Hospital, Pearl S. Buck Volunteers Association, Meals on Wheels, NOVA and FISH.
Judy’s interests ranged from bridge to cycling, and she and Jim loved their trips to Europe with the Stultzes and to Scotland to call on the Fergusons in Carluke, as well as winters in Siesta Key, FL and scenic bike rides in the Mid-Atlantic. The family will always remember the epic car ride from Bucks County to San Diego and back during the summer of 1976 in their Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser when the world came to Philadelphia for the Bicentennial.
Judy and Jim were an inseparable couple, often performing community service together in retirement, and quick to help neighbors. As her students, customers, sons, grandsons, and sisters can all attest, Judy also had a well-trained eye and sharp ear for speech and grammar. And like her father, known to all as "Red" Stultz, she passed with a full head of auburn hair.
Surviving are sons Andrew Gifford Ferguson (Laura) of Richmond, VA, and Timothy Richardson Ferguson of Doylestown. Jim and Judy had three grandsons: Stuart Gifford (Melanie) of Lander, WY, Peter Shands (Natalie) and Thomas Christian (Elisabeth) all of Richmond, and great-grand-daughter Rose. Surviving sisters are Jane Stultz Robertson (Gregg) of Hershey, PA, and Rebecca Stultz Piper (Frederick) of Hollidaysburg. She was predeceased by her sister Sara Elizabeth Stultz of Annville, PA.
A private family service will be held at Forest Grove Presbyterian Church with interment following immediately after. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forest Grove Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 462, Forest Grove, PA 18922.
