Dr. Louis Philip Cardi passed away peacefully in his bed on Christmas morning, December 25, 2025. His devoted wife of 60 years, Barbara Ann Cardi, was by his side. He joins his sister, Rosina Delgiorno and his beloved son, Philip Michael Cardi, in the afterlife. He is also survived by his children: Lisa (Jay) Barnett, Louis (Cynthia) Cardi, Christopher (Kristin) Cardi, Sara (Lee) Janiczek, Daniel/DJ Cardi, and Gregory (Jessica) Cardi. He will affectionately be remembered as “Pop-pop” to his 15 grandchildren.
Dr. Cardi was born to Italian immigrants, Laura Rose Castelli and Philip Louis Cardi on March 15, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY. He completed his undergraduate and medical school degrees at Georgetown University. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Merrick in 1964. Louis was drafted into the US Army as a doctor serving in Nuremberg, Germany where he achieved the rank of Major. After his military service they settled in Basking Ridge, NJ where he worked as a family physician before having a distinguished career with Johnson& Johnson as their Corporate Medical Director; where he also served on multiple advisory and charity boards before his retirement in 2006.
Louis was an avid traveler with his career providing him and Barbara the opportunity to see many amazing corners of the world. He was the beloved head doctor and administrator at Johnson & Johnson’s headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ for 30 years where he was integral in developing and defining the company’s culture. He was known for his ardent love of chocolate and as a proud Italian American would eat pasta seven days a week if he could.
Above all else Louis was a loving and selfless husband and father. He and Barbara built an incredible family legacy with an immense tight-knit network of extended family and close friends. His pride and joy was his children and grandchildren and he instilled in them the value of family. “Family comes first”.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, where relatives and friends will be received from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM.
