Marianne S. Gilmour

Marianne S. Gilmour, of Doylestown, PA, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025. She was 94.

Marianne was the wife of C. Allan Gilmour who passed away in 2011.

Born in Doylestown, Marianne was the daughter of the late Carl C. and Marian Runner Schmieg of Mechanicsville, PA.

She lived her entire life in Mechanicsville and Doylestown. Marianne graduated from Buckingham High School in 1948. She received a Bachelor's degree from West Chester Teachers College in 1952 and earned a Master's degree from Drexel Institute of Technology (Drexel University) in Library Science in 1967.

She was a teacher at the New Hope-Solebury Elementary School and the U.S. Dependent School in Mainz, Germany. After returning from Europe, she was a teacher and librarian in Central Bucks School District. Prior to her retirement she was the Coordinator of Children's Services at Bucks County Free Library.

Marianne was a member of the Doylestown Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Lingohocken Garden Club and member of P.E.O. Chapter AZ. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years. She loved to travel both in Europe and the United States. She and Allan visited all  50 U.S. state capitals. She also enjoyed reading and working in her garden.

She is survived by her family, including her nephews: John Henry and his wife, Deb, Jim Schmieg and his wife, Sue, Tim Schmieg and his wife Barb, and niece, De Richards. Additionally, Marianne is fondly remembered by her seven grand nieces and nephews and eleven great-grand nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Pam Watson Waller. She is also survived by her late husband’s family including daughter, Mary Jane Arnold and son, Jim Gilmour.

Marianne was preceded in death by her sister, Josephine R. Henry; her brothers, Carl M. and George T. Schmieg, niece, Pam Pickerd and Allan’s daughter, Susan Callaway.

A celebration of Marianne's life will be held at a later date. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
