Marie A. Concannon, born on April 30, 1959, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at Pine Run Health Center in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She was a dedicated social worker who began her career with Lehigh County in Crisis Intervention after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bloomsburg State College in 1981. Marie found fulfillment in her work with Lehigh County, where she not only supported clients and their families but also cherished the relationships built with her colleagues.
Beyond her role in county service, Marie enjoyed a part-time position at Louie's Restaurant in Allentown, where her warmth and personality brightened the dining experience. Additionally, her passion for canine companions led her to teach classes at South Mountain Dog School, sharing her love of dogs with others. After retiring from her career at the County, Marie continued to bring joy and laughter as an activity aide at Country Meadows Retirement Community, connecting with residents who enjoyed her jokes and stories. Everywhere she worked, Marie made lifelong friends.
Known affectionately as "Tia" by her nieces and nephews, Marie was an excellent aunt who made a lasting impression on those around her. Her talents extended beyond her professional life; she was an accomplished seamstress and created many beautiful quilts. An animal lover throughout her life, she had many dogs, most of whom were rescues, and her two most recent companions, Pippa and Jazzy, are now comfortably settled at Scarlet Heart Sanctuary for senior dogs.
Marie embraced life with gusto; she loved to talk, joke, tell stories, and dance. Her adventurous spirit led her to enjoy skiing, bike riding, vacations at the shore and lake, and traveling with friends, always looking for the next opportunity for fun or a good laugh.
She is survived by her sister, Ellen Happ and her husband, Andy; her nephews, Josh Honig and his wife Stacy, Will Happ and his wife Maria; her nieces, Cara Dorazio and her husband Lucas, and Grace Happ; her grandnieces, Lauren, Sadie, and Josie; and her grandnephew, Zach. She was very proud of all of them.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Rita and Frank Concannon; her sister, Kathy Honig; and her brother-in-law, Richard Honig. The legacy of her kindness, laughter, and resilience will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her struggle against cancer over the past decade was a testament to her strength and determination, qualities that will be remembered and celebrated by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Marie's honor be made to Scarlet Heart Sanctuary, https://www.scarletheart.org
