It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marion M. Cook, who left us on January 15, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on February 7, 1929, in Plumstead Township, Marion lived a life rich in dedication, love, and community involvement.
Marion was a beloved wife to the late Roland Magill Cook. She was predeceased by her sister, Esther Mergenthaler, her brother, John Mergenthaler Jr., and her daughter, Joyce Blanco. Marion is survived by her grandchildren, Fawn Wolfe and Bill Blanco, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Better known as "Florence," she was a highly respected member of her community. She began her career on the editorial staff of the Intelligencer, where her passion for writing flourished. Marion also spent time as a sales consultant with Princess House.
Her commitment to service was evident in her long-standing volunteer work with the Point Pleasant Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, significantly during her tenure as President for over thirty years. Additionally, Marion contributed her time and leadership for many years with 4-H, including her presidency of the Women of Extension of Penn State for nearly three decades.
Marion's involvement extended to the Plumstead Township Historic Advisory Committee, where she preserved the history of her beloved hometown. Her dedication to Plumstead Township is highlighted by her contribution as a co-author of the Images of America book "Plumstead Township," published in 2005, a testament to her passion for her community.
An avid cook and baker, Marion found joy in entertaining friends and family. She enjoyed celebrating every holiday with abundant decorations throughout her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Carversville Cemetery.
