Richard (Dick) Paul Mumaugh passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026 at the age of 84. He was born on December 11, 1941 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Paul and Marion Mumaugh. He had an older brother, John. Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was defined by his deep love for family, faith, friends, and a steadfast commitment to his community.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Judith (Judy) Mumaugh; his daughters, Kathy Carpenter and her husband, Sean, and Linay Richards and her husband, Tom; and his cherished grandchildren, Kayla and Gavin.
Dick graduated from Altoona High School in 1959. He attended Lycoming College, where he met his future wife, Judy, and graduated in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree. He later earned his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Penn State University. Dick dedicated his professional life to education as a Guidance Counselor in the Central Bucks School District, where he served for 28 years. He worked at Central Bucks West High School, Holicong Middle School, and Central Bucks East High School. He took his role as an educator seriously and was known for his thoughtful problem-solving, compassion, and determination to help students and families navigate even the most challenging situations.
A faithful and long-standing member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, Dick served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Membership Committee, as well as on several pastoral search committees. He was deeply involved in small group ministry and also served as a commissioner to the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly and on the Committee on Ministry with the Presbytery of Philadelphia. His faith, warmth, and spirit of service were a blessing to all who knew him.
Dick cherished his time with his family. He devoted many days watching first his daughters and then his grandchildren playing sports. He was always up for mystery trips with his grandchildren, family dinners and games, especially Wizard. Annual summer vacations to Ocean City New Jersey, Rehoboth Beach, Williamsburg Virginia, Outer Banks and Chincoteague Island made priceless memories.
He was an avid stamp and coin collector, a hobby instilled in him by his father, with a particular interest in U.S. and international stamps. Dick loved gardening and grilling and enjoyed sports both as a participant and a spectator, whether in person or on television. He was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Eagles, and the Penn State Nittany Lions and Blue Band. Always handy, Dick took pride in building, fixing, and improving things around the house, never hesitating to lend his skills where they were needed. He loved completing jigsaw puzzles and playing games with friends—Wizard, Five Crowns, Hearts with DPC men, Pinochle, and last but not least playing UNO with the infamous UNO group.
Though his medical journey was colorful, Dick remained brave and positive throughout, greeting each challenge with a smile and just enough sarcasm to keep things interesting. Dick’s legacy of love, kindness, faith, and dedication to his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him—and in the many lives he touched through service, steady guidance, and a joyful appreciation for time spent together.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday February 14th at Doylestown Presbyterian Church starting at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will follow immediately after the service.
