Richard (Dick) Frank Seidel of Doylestown died on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Fort Washington Estates in Fort Washington, PA. He was 95 years of age. Dick was married to the late Jean Mildred Seidel for 65 years. They met at a wedding, fell in love, and were together until Jean passed away in 2024.

Dick was born October 9, 1930 and lived in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia. He was the oldest child of the late Frank and Eva Seidel and had a younger sister, Vivian Baldwin. Dick graduated from Central High School where he was a good student and played on the basketball & baseball teams. He attended Penn State after high school, because of his passion for sports and education.

Dick was on the Nittany Lion basketball team during his freshman year at Penn State. In his sophomore year he discovered being the treasurer of his fraternity helped pay for his college tuition. The commitment to being the treasurer forced him on the sideline, but he never lost his passion for basketball. His new finance skills as treasurer lasted a lifetime, being a church treasurer for most of his life.

After graduating from Penn State with a teacher’s certification, Dick served in the Army for 2 years, stationed at Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania. After the Army, Dick began his career in education, accepting a teaching position at New Hope Solebury High School (NHS). With his love for sports, Dick also coached the varsity basketball and baseball teams. During his early years at NHS, Dick and Jean were married and in 1958, they moved to Doylestown, residing at “Duane Road” for 61 years.

While teaching, coaching, and being a father to 3 young children, Dick somehow managed to go to night and summer school and obtained two masters degrees in education. This enabled him to become a guidance counselor. Dick also served as the NHS athletic director, as well as Pennsylvania District 1 baseball chairman. Joining other chairmen in the state, together they established the Pennsylvania state baseball playoffs in 1977. In 2006, Dick was inducted into the NHS Hall of Fame.

During the summer school break in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, Dick managed the Burpee Playground in Doylestown. During the school year, Dick started the Central Bucks Youth Basketball program on Saturday mornings at Central Bucks High School.

Dick had a diverse number of interests and loves in his life. Most importantly, he loved God and believed Jesus Christ was his guiding light. He was a faithful member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school with his wife Jean, and helped with the church finances. Dick was a passionate Philadelphia and Penn State sports fan. He attended the Eagles 1960 NFL Championship game and his family has been season ticket holders since 1961. Dick loved to bowl and was in leagues both in Chalfont and Doylestown. Dick golfed well into his 80s and played in weekly WAGS (Wandering Ageless Golfing Seniors) tournaments. Dick loved playing cards and enjoyed monthly neighborhood men’s poker night along with the neighborhood couples card night. Dick also enjoyed playing cards with family, especially with his grandchildren during their annual summer shore vacations. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed solving puzzles. Dick cherished his family and was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and a person who left people feeling better with every encounter.

Dick is survived by his loving children; Frank Seidel and his wife Ilze, Rick Seidel and his wife Sue, and Sue Bryan and her husband Keat, three grandchildren; Travis Bryan and his wife Aly, Lindsay Seidel, and David Seidel, great grandchildren Jack Bryan & Lily Jean Bryan. In addition to his wife Jean and parents, his sister Vivian Baldwin predeceased Dick.
