Ronald P. Wood, affectionately known as "Butch," passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Born on July 13, 1943, in Abington, Pennsylvania, Ronald’s life was a testament to dedication, family love, and community service.
Ronald graduated from Palisades High School in 1962, stepping into adulthood with a firm resolve and a compassionate heart. His career began humbly with positions at Cross Keys Furniture and Neslo of Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania. However, it was his 29 years as a 911 dispatcher for Bucks County that truly highlighted his commitment to serving others. Retiring in 2003, Ronald’s calm and steady voice provided reassurance in moments of crisis, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched throughout his career.
He was deeply devoted to his family and cherished the loving relationship he shared with his wife, Frances, for 35 years. Together, Ronald and Frances made their home in Doylestown, treasuring the simple pleasures of life — from traveling and taking long walks to watching movies and delighting in hot air balloon rides. Though Frances predeceased him, their bond remained a guiding light throughout his life.
Ronald's heart extended beyond his immediate family to his community, where he proudly served at the Point Pleasant Fire Company. He was a true pillar there, advancing from a dedicated member to roles including driver of the fleet of Fire Trucks, Secretary, Assistant Chief, and ultimately Chief. Ronald’s leadership and passion for firefighting were among his proudest accomplishments, underscoring a lifetime of selflessness.
Known for his friendly nature and easygoing spirit, Ronald made friends wherever he went, always ready with a kind word or a listening ear. He was a man of many interests—an avid collector and enthusiast of trains who found joy in riding steam trains, train watching, and maintaining a cherished collection. His love for sports was evident in his enthusiasm for bowling leagues, baseball games—especially cheering for the Phillies—and NASCAR races, both in person and on television.
Ronald’s legacy lives on through his beloved son Michael Wood and daughter-in-law Barbarajean Wood; grandsons Joseph (Lyndsay) and Timothy Williams; great-granddaughters Jessica and Elizabeth; and devoted nephew Scott Pursell. Their lives have been enriched by his unwavering support and love. He is preceded in death by his father Paul Wood, mother Helen Wood, his dear wife Frances Wood, sister Deanna (Frank) Pursell, nephew Frank Pursell Jr.
To celebrate Ronald’s remarkable life, a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on June 6, 2026, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Both events will take place at Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, located at 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, PA 18901.
Ronald P. Wood’s life was one deeply woven with love, service, and friendship. He inspired those around him, especially his son Michael, to carry forward a legacy of commitment to community and family. His warmth, dedication, and gentle spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ronald Wood's name to Point Pleasant Fire Co., PO Box 1, Point Pleasant, PA 18950.
