Sherry J. (Whittock) Spence passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 in Doylestown, PA after a short period of hospice care. She was 86 years of age.
She was wife of Louis B. Spence for 61 years who preceded her in death in August 2021. Sherry is survived by her daughters Lisa (Spence) Armstrong Zimmerman and Lynne (Spence) Schwass; five grandchildren: Bryan Armstrong, Stephen Armstrong, Eric Schwass, Emma Schwass and Elisabeth Schwass; and three great-grandchildren.
Born in Abington, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of late Harry G. Whittock and J. Jean Whittock. She grew up in Glenside, PA and graduated from Cheltenham High School, class of 1958.
Sherry was a career stay-at-home mom supporting her family as executive chef, transportation engineer, emergency medic, head gardener, school project consultant, CFO, etc. and later on grandmom in residence. She cultivated her creative interests through sewing, decorating and landscape design (she actually built the garden wall!) and kept her mind sharp solving cryptograms, crossword puzzles and genealogical research. Sherry was an active member of First Baptist Church, Doylestown as a participant in choir, Sunday School groups and Bible study groups. Until the end she was seeking her Lord in prayer and praise.
Thanks to the staff at The Bridges of Warwick community who cared for her when she could no longer live independently.
A memorial service celebrating Sherry’s life will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, July 11 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, where the family will greet guests from 10:30am until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
