Oscar D. Freedgood

Oscar D. Freedgood of Doylestown passed away on Wednesday, June 21. He was 100 years old and the husband of Virginia A. Freedgood.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Rose and Harry Friedgut.

Oscar received a B.A. Parsons School of Design, served in WWII at the rank of first lieutenant in the Army Air Force as a flight navigator, having flown 22 missions over Germany. After the war, he worked as a commercial artist for Gray Advertising in New York City. He later formed his own greeting card company which created the first contemporary greeting card, and after that founded Whitehall, a games company in Boston, MA. In 1988, he married Virginia Nicholson and they ran an antique business for 25 years before retiring.

His passion was painting. An accomplished artist and teacher of art, he was a member of Artists of Yardley and exhibited in galleries throughout Bucks County. He was also passionate about politics and was an active member of the Bucks County Democratic Party, often volunteering as a poll watcher during elections.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters: Barbara Freedgood, Elaine Freedgood and son, Marc Freedgood, all from his first marriage to Maureen Freedgood; grandchildren: Misha Lopato, Naomi Lopato, Natalie Freedgood and Alex Freedgood; stepdaughters: Elizabeth Nicholson and Ruth Janjic, as well as six step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to his graveside service at 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2023 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, Pennsylvania (attendees are
requested to be at the cemetery by 11:15 a.m.)
