January 9, 2018

Gene E. Sterner of Doylestown passed on January 9th at Pine Run Community. He was 77 years old.

Born in Hanover Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edward and Velma Sterner.

From childhood at his grandfather’s general store and further indulged at the Pennsylvania State University Creamery, his passion and palate for ice cream were unmatched.

Gene was a proud graduate of Penn State University, where unable to major in ice cream, he received a degree in business and accounting. From there he worked at Hamilton Watch Company in New York, before becoming the chief financial officer for Fogel, Jordan, Fleetwood corporation for over 40 years. However, he derived much of his professional satisfaction from helping clients through his own tax preparation business which he also ran for 40 years.

Gene channeled his strong work ethic from his early days on the family farm into all his endeavors, including his joy for being outdoors and puttering on small projects and yard work.

Gene also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, from which he found his greatest joy. Grandpa to Spencer, Courtney, Jack, and Cooper, nothing gave him more pride. Gene is also survived by his beloved wife Marsha of 47 years, and his two loving children and their spouses, Drew (Kim) and Kirsten O’Neil (Jason).
