Muriel L. Phy

Muriel L. Phy, a longtime resident of Doylestown passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Neshaminy Manor in Warrington. She was 92 and the loving wife for 68 years of David C. Phy who preceded her in death on December 21, 2021.

Born in Upper Moreland, she was the daughter of the late Jim Briggs and Nellie (Scholey) Briggs.

Muriel worked several jobs during her lifetime. In the early years she was a phone operator for Bell Telephone and went on to work at the Daily Intelligencer for more than 25 years.

She was a life member of the Doylestown Fire Co. #1 Auxiliary, a member of the Doylestown Mennonite Church prior to moving to Cresco PA., the Red Hat Society and was a Den Mother for Pack 24 in the 1950’s. During her time in the Poconos, she joined the United Methodist Church of Mountainhome and worked at Spruce Lake Camp.

Muriel is survived by her sons: Bruce Phy (Susan) of Bensalem, Robert Phy (Ann) of Quakertown and her daughter: Barbarajean Wood (Michael) of New Britain. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, her sister, Edith Ann (Briggs) Knapp; two nieces, three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

In addition to her husband David Phy, Sr., she was predeceased by her sons: David Phy, Jr., Thomas Phy and Daniel Phy and her sister, Francis Rebecca May Briggs.

Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Doylestown Mennonite Church, 590 North Broad Street, Doylestown where the family will receive guests from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Doylestown Mennonite Cemetery, as Mom and Dad are laid to rest together in their final resting place. Celebrant will be Pastor John Keretzman.
